The Media Resilience Network is a new initiative by Vita-Activa.Org, to strengthen the emotional and organizational resilience of journalists and newsroom leaders working in under-resourced and underserved communities across the United States. As one of 22 projects awarded by the Press Forward’s Open Call on Infrastructure, MDRnet is positioned to address urgent challenges journalism and media organizations face today—from burnout and trauma to systemic instability and lack of community support.
We aim to enhance the well being and capacity of journalists and media organizations by building resilience from the inside out—supporting the people who keep local democracy alive.
Journalists in the U.S., particularly those in historically marginalized and underrepresented communities, face immense challenges: financial instability, emotional strain, political threats, and systemic inequities. Newsrooms in disaster-affected areas and news deserts struggle to sustain operations. These pressures not only endanger individual media professionals but also threaten democracy itself. Without strong, supported journalists, communities lose access to reliable, independent news.
Counseling and coaching support sessions and leadership resilience programs AND training and mentoring sessions for newsrooms, journalism schools, and media organizations.
