NCRC CDF is dedicated to strengthening the capacity of mission-driven organizations and advancing economic opportunity by increasing access to capital, technical assistance, and resources for small and minority-owned businesses. Through these efforts, NCRC CDF works to promote sustainable growth and foster economic equity for Black, Latino, and Low-Income communities.
Local news organizations, particularly startups and those in underserved communities, struggle to access sustainable financing. Traditional banks view them as high-risk, limiting their ability to secure loans. Without financial support, these outlets face challenges in sustaining operations, expanding coverage, and generating revenue, threatening the availability of reliable local journalism. Our solution is to expand the pilot Media Resilience Fund, which provides accessible, low-interest financing to local news organizations, particularly those meeting information needs in underserved, underestimated communities. By offering flexible loans and financial guidance, this initiative enables news outlets to invest in revenue-generating hires and stabilize operations. With support from our co-applicant URL Media, and consulting by Rebuild Local News, we aim to create a scalable financing model!
The Media Resilience Fund, powered by the NCRC Community Development Fund (CDF), offers affordable and flexible financing tailored for local media and journalism businesses. This loan program is designed to help news organizations stabilize operations, invest in growth, and expand their audience reach—supporting the long-term sustainability of independent media.
